The Markha valley trek comes under the “Hemis National Park sanctuary”. The park was established in the year 1981 with the aim to preserve the rich flora and fauna of the valley. Markha valley is one of the road less and remote valleys in the Ladakh situated in the gorge of Zanskar Range that runs parallel to the Indus valley. Markha valley trek is one of the most diverse and attractive treks in Ladakh. It has gigantic rock pinnacles, beetling cliffs, slender defiles and prayer-flaged passes and offers a large diversity of landscapes and green oasis of Valley which is guarded by Kang Yatse (6400mts) from east and Zanskar range from the south west. During this trek, we will go through many scattered high villages, each with ancient monastery and irrigated fields of barley, wheat and mustard which add brilliance to the landscape of this broken moon land. In this trek route, you may have chance for spotting many rare and endangered animal species ot this cold desert. Among these are the elusive Snow Leopard, Ibex, Tibetan Antelope, Blue Sheep, Shapo, Marmot, Tibetan Hare etc. Among the avi fauna population found is the Snow Patridge, Golden Oriole, Snow Cock, Golden Eagle, Horned Lark, Red Billed Chuff etc.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Fly Delhi to Leh. Welcome at Kushok Bakula

Day: 02 Full day acclimatization sightseeing Indus valley.

Day 03:Half day acclimatization hiking to adjacent villages of Leh town.

Day 04: Full day Jeep tour sightseeing to 11th century Alchi Choskor Temple “the Living heritage of Ladakh” and 15th century Likir monastery of Sham valley. Overnight at Leh town.

Day 05: Leh to Spituk village by Jeep 15 drives. Then Trek from Spituk village to Zingchen (4/5 hrs trek). Overnight at Zingchen.

DAY 04 – Trek from Ganda La base to Skiu via Ganda La pass at 4900 m (6-7 hours)

DAY 05 – Trek from Skiu to Markha (7-8 hours)

DAY 06 – Trek from Markha to Hankar (4000 m) in approx. 4 hrs.

DAY 07 – Trek from Hankar to Nimaling (4650 m) in approx. 4 hrs.

DAY 08 – Rest at Nimaling

DAY 09 - Nimaling to Kongmaru La (5150 m) and Shang Sumdo (3750 m) in approx. 7 hrs.

DAY 10 - Shang Sumdo to Hemis to Leh in approx. 6 hrs.

Day 14: Free day. Overnight at Leh town.

Day 15: Fly Leh to Delhi and connecting flight to your home country.

Day 01: Welcome at Kushok Bakula Airport.Transfer to Hotel.Full day rest for acclimatization. Overnight at Leh town.

Day: 02 Full day acclimatization sightseeing to famous ancient monastery of Leh region. Shey, Thiksay, Hemis. Overnight at Leh town.

Day 03:Half day acclimatization hiking to adjacent villages of Leh city.      ...    Including sightseeing to Shanti Stupa, Samkar Gompa, Namgyal Tsemo Gompa and 17th century Lhachen Phalkar palace. Overnight at Leh town.

Day 04: Full day Jeep tour sightseeing Sham valley.  11th century Alchi Choskor Temple “the Living heritage of Ladakh” and 15th century Likir monastery of Sham valley. Overnight at Leh town.

Day 05: Leh to Spituk village by Jeep 15 drives.

Then Trek from Spituk village to Zingchen (4/5 hrs trek). Overnight at Zingchen.

DAY 04: Trek from Ganda La base to Skiu via Ganda La pass at 4900 m (6-7 hours. After a light breakfast, we will begin our 2-hr ascent to Ganda La; views of the lofty Zanskar and Stok Ranges will leave you breathless. The usual chorten and prayer flags mark the top of the pass, where one may see blue sheep and marmots roaming the hills. After a short break, we will make a gradual hour-long descent to Shingo and break for lunch. We will finish the day by hiking through a spectacular gorge before pitching camp at Skiu (3300m). Within this idyllic village lies an old monastery and ruins of an old castle (once a rest stop for the Royal family on their way to Srinagar. O/N CAMP.

DAY 05: Trek from Skiu to Markha (7-8 hours)
From Skiu, follow a good path on the right bank of Markha where one can find great vegetation. Then cross right bank of river and cross through barren plain and arrive at Chaluk. Thereafter, walk along the left bank of river and after another crossing, climb towards Markha village. Good camp site beyond the village and near the river. O/N CAMP.

DAY 06: Trek from Markha to Hankar (4000 m) in approx. 4 hrs.
Start trek towards the main valley on the right bank. The path is sometimes difficult at the river bed and pass the monastery of Humlung. Then carry on trekking along the right bank and arrive in Hankar where there are several houses.

DAY 07: Trek from Hankar to Nimaling (4650 m) in approx. 4 hrs.
The path improves and crosses a broad valley on the right side. The valley becomes narrow and higher. We cross bridges on to the left bank and then reach Tchatchuste. We climb pastures to reach Nimaling. This is one of most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh dominated by the Kang Yaze. O/N CAMP.

DAY 08: Rest at  Nimaling

Free day in Nimaling to explore the surrounding areas. O/N CAMP.

DAY 09: Trek from Nimaling to Kongmaru La (5150 m) and Shang Sumdo (3750 m) in approx. 7 hrs. Cross the Markha valley and follow long climb along the mountain side. Then, a zig zag road leads towards Kongmarula. Follow steep descent into gorges and then keep walking on the left bank to Chukirmo. Thereafter crossing right and left bank and arrive Shang, a beautiful camp in groves and there is a monastery an hour away from the village. O/N CAMP.

DAY 10: Trek from Shang Sumdo to Hemis to Leh in approx. 6 hrs.

Trek Walk along the stream down to Hemis monastery, which is one of the oldest and richest monasteries in Ladakh. Visit Hemis monastery and drive to Leh. En route visit Thiksey, Shey and Stok Museum Palace. Evening at leisure. O/N LEH.

Day 14: Free day. Overnight at Leh town.

Day 15: Fly Leh to Delhi and connecting flight to your home country.
